I’m right here with you, Allyson. It’s hard when people refuse to respect boundaries. My parents are evangelical Trumpers, so it is God’s will that they disrespect my boundaries. I cannot visit them because I have a chronic condition, and my mom is determined to go to church and the gym during the pandemic. It sounds like you can trust your parents to be honest, which is something in the midst of this hellscape. But in the end, do what makes you feel safe, what feeds your soul. You are not wrong to put yourself and your sanity ahead of family drama.
